Demon

Here's the first pass at the demon character from the WIP earlier. I'm actually really pleased with how he turned out. There are a few issues that would benefit from some extra attention but with time running out it's safe to say that this guy is essentially finished. This render is straight from Zbrush and for a time I was debating rendering him fully in Zbrush. This was mainly because of the pressure the HD geometry put on my PC. In total the monster weighed in at a hefty 150+ million points. Although working with this many polys in small manageable chunks (through the HD geometry feature) was frustrating, exporting the maps was simply impossible with my current hardware. After losing a few days of work from repeated crashes I had to scrap the HD geometry and just use the 9 million that the SD geometry had. This was disappointing to say the least, but probably could have been predicted. Because of this I'm deciding to light and render the character in a "proper" renderer, either Vray or Mental Ray. Despite the high detail of the character render times should be fairly low because a monster of this size (100 ft) exhibits virtually no sub surface scattering. I'm pretty excited to see this animated and rendered and I hope the final film gets finished.
